We apologize greatly for all the silence, but it has been difficult to predict what each new day would bring in order to know how best to proceed. Anxiously awaiting news from the Jimmy’s in New York and the return of schools and their productions, we held out hope for as long as we could that adjudicating could still continue; our judges have been ready and waiting to jump at the chance whenever to do so. Unfortunately, since we have now received final confirmation that the Jimmy’s has been cancelled and it doesn’t seem any schools will be resuming their normal activities for the rest of the school year. Our hearts break and are with every single one of our schools and their performers who saw their productions cancelled, never getting to perform to their families and friends. We especially feel for you seniors. We know your performances would have been, as our dear Lee Childress would say, “Beyond the beyond.”
Due to strict federal and state event guidelines and out of wanting to keep everyone as safe as possible, it has become quite clear that we will not be able to hold our 50th MACY Day celebration at the Terrace Theater in Long Beach as planned. However, we refuse to let this stop our ability to recognize and praise the hard work we did see. We still aren’t clear on what this celebration will look like just yet, or even when exactly, but we are planning on something. Please stay tuned for further announcements and details.
We deeply hope this finds all of you safe and in good health. May our sweet Johnny and Lee Childress continue to watch over every single one of us. We will honor their great contribution to this world next year at our 50th…again celebration. Remember, within this pause you too still have a purpose. We thank you for giving us ours.
Sincerely,
The MACY Board
